Spotted this
passing through Giant Tiger in search of Frozen II merch last weekend (ya gotta pay the mouse)
It raises many questions: who eats enough hot dogs to justify a dedicated appliance? It’s not geared for mass production like a hot dog roller/steamer machine.
I guess it could work for a dorm room or studio apartment where you don’t have the appliances to cook hot dogs normally, but how much would you hate yourself and hot dogs if this was your primary source of nourishment?
Funnily enough when I showed it to one of my colleagues he mentioned his uncle used to have a device called the Hot-diggity-dog which was brought out around the Christmas holidays and everyone had hot dogs.
However that looks like it was a steamer and bun warmer, not toaster based.
F $30 Canadian would you have bought it?

I saw the same thing on a deal on Amazon or Woot recently. Maybe someone that had a home theater room would have one? Like one of those big popcorn machines? That’s the only thing I could think of.

Not even set up to toast New England-style rolls, lame. In any event, single-use kitchen gadgets tend to be a pretty bad idea.

Supposedly, these only work if you like lukewarm hotdogs and burned buns, so I'd say you made a good call.

Not me, but I make my own hot dog cookers.
I call the last one Hotdogtopus.

We have one in the break room at work. I’ve never seen anybody use it...

if you buy a shameless uni-tasker like that, this guy will come to your house and slap you.

Back in high school a few of us would go over to Dave’s house almost every day for hot dogs at lunch. We had some weird U-shaped bun thingies
and just ketchup and mustard. These days I can’t stand hot dogs; I’ll eat other types of sausage, but not hot dogs; maybe a gourmet hot dog place, but not even at Costco (why did they have to discontinue the bratwurst and Polish sausage???)
About the only exception I’ll make is if I’m visiting in SoCal, I’ll stop by an old favorite chain and have a few, although my standards have changed and the last time
I didn’t find the food to be all that good. Nostalgic, sure, but not that appetizing.
Watching Alton Brown on Good Eats for years I’ve adopted his mentality and for the most part stay away from single-purpose devices like this. I have a few small gadgets that fit this category , usually picked up at the Goodwill Outlet, but will not buy anything large that just has one function . The only thing I can think of that I have right now is a slicer for hard boiled eggs. It didn’t cost much, maybe a quarter, but I haven’t been able to adequately slice anything else with it; I think the last thing I tried was olives.

Grilled hotdogs are far superior.
I dont know why anyone bothers with steaming at all

I think the only single use thing I have is an ice cream maker, but I’ll claim that it’s actually multi-purpose:
Ice cream maker
Sorbet maker
Frozen custard
Freezer temperature stabilizer

I never understood NE style rolls. The last time I bought hot dog buns, I accidentally got NE style. At least for hot dogs, I'm not a fan.

Buttered and toasted they are good!

Concur, my mum used to boil them and it wasn't great.
Took me a good street meat dog to convince me there was hope for them

I am sure they are, I just don’t see why they’re sliced on the top.
Give me some quality potato rolls any day.

I stopped eating hot dogs entirely after working at 7-Eleven in college. I had to clean the grills every night and the smell put me off of them forever.

I’d give the egg slicer a pass as a specialty utensil: there’s no way I’d be able to cut those nice neat rings with yolk in the middle like my grandma used to do with a knife (note to self buy egg slicer)
Similarly I own a waffle maker but I don’t have any way to make those without it.
Also tell Dave's mom I say heyyy

Yeah, one of those things is not like the other. I feel like you’d have to double cycle the hot dogs,
then adjust the timing and add
the buns.

For science you need to try it and report back! If
it goes poorly have
your executors report back.

I’ve used an egg slicer for those balls of fresh mozzarella and mushrooms. Even without that it cuts eggs so well I’d keep it even if it were a unitasker.

easier to butter and toast for lobster rolls. but for hot dogs? they can GTFO.

why wouldn’t you just simmer the tube steaks in a pan and steam the buns over it?

This bothers me so much. I’m a Chicago dog guy: steamed vienna beef, steamed poppy bun. I prefer the chicago style toppings, but I am not one of those “ketchup does not belong on hot dogs” crusader.
Toasting the bun, and...toasting the weiner, will lead to a dry product. Ever see those gas station dogs on the rollers? They look like a finger of your eldest relative. Plus, that is a steep opening angle for those buns. You’ll likely end up ripping those buns in half. I’d much prefer that hot Diggity Dog maker.
